Ron Sparks - Alabama Governor Democrat Candidate 2010

On April 3, 2009, Ron Sparks announced that he would run for governor of Alabama. He handily defeated Congressman Artur Davis in the Democratic primary on June 1, 2010 by a margin of 25 points. Tensions over Davis' opposition to President Obama's healthcare reform legislation led black organizations and voters to turn to Sparks.

Ron Sparks has taken an agressive pro gambling pro lottery position and has the apparent backing of the gambling interests.
Sparks supports the Obama healthcare reform and the public option, opposes charter schools, supports the Stimulus, and advocates an educational lottery and gaming tax for pre-kindergarten and college scholarships.

Ron Sparks, supports the Obama Health Care Plan.

Ron Sparks has many times said he supported the Obama Health Care Plan.. Sparks criticized Artur Davis for voting against the Obama Health Care Plan. As Artur Davis positioned himself as taking the moderate position on issues, Ron Sparks went after the Democrat and black vote by saying Artur Davis was not liberal and Democratic enough.

Ron Sparks Soft on the Gay Issues

It is none of the governments business to tel you what to do concerning marriage. These are code words to say, he supports the gay agenda. Ron Sparks says he would have been a supporter of the Hate Crimes Bill, which is supported by the gay community as it provides special protection for crimes against homosexuals and gays. Sparks: Speaking about gay, in my race, I 've always said I wouldn't have voted against the hate crimes bill.

Sparks: They asked me about same sex marriage at the Over the Mountain Democrats. Personally, my religion, I believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman. But with you personally in your life it's none of my business. But, my personal religion, and marriage, I just believe it's between a man and a woman. But there again, I also believe that we're all God's children. That nobody should be mistreated or abused because of their preferences. I just strongly believe that. That's just the way I feel about it. I don't care who you are, what color you are, or what your personal preference is. You shouldn't be mistreated, you shouldn't be hurt and you shouldn't be killed. And if I'd have been in Congess I would have not voted against the hate crimes bill.

Ron Sparks on Abortion

Ron Sparks has constantly avoided the issue of abortion and a woman's choice. Sparks appears to be playing the game of assuming that he will have the pro choice Democrat vote, and wants to avoid making the pro life voter upset on abortion. So Ron Sparks plays it safe, and is neutral in his position or statements on abortion. His web site is
silent of the issue.
