Madison County Republican Executive Committee Considers Removing Parker Griffith from Republican Ballot

The Madison County Republican Executive Committee debated an appeal that would have kept Griffith off June's primary ballot. By a vote of 41-9, they voted to allow Parker Griffith to stay on the ballot. The fact that the issue was debated or even voted on, should be considered as a major question as to Parker Griffith's creditability and points to the controversy as to his acceptance into the Republican Party.

To reflect that Parker Griffith was not welcome as Republican, reflecting that we remember to well Griffith pushing the liberal agenda.
The committee passed a resolution that urged Republicans not to support Griffith with either votes or money. Instead they were asked to back one of the other candidates, Mo Brooks and Les Phillip. http://blog.al.com/mccarter/2010/01/rep_parker_griffith_works_repu.html More Issue Information http://blog.al.com/mccarter/2010/01/rep_parker_griffith_works_repu.html

RESOLUTION - URGING REPUBLICANS TO NOT SUPPORT PARKER GRIFFITH,
SUPPORT MO BROOKS OR LES PHILLIP

Resolution on Parker Griffith by the Madison County Republican Executive Committee
Whereas, since the defection of Alabama 5th Congressional District Parker Griffith from the Democratic Party he stated that, "he has not changed a bit".

Whereas, Parker Griffith written Positions in the Huntsville Times Article of 2008 states that:

He pledges to support the death of Bush Tax Cuts. He pledges to vote to impose a deadline date for leaving Iraq. He pledges to vote for "Card Check" (removal or rights to a secret ballot In unionization elections)

Whereas, Parker Griffith's past support for Liberal Democratic Agenda Candidates like:
His Vote to elect Nancy Pelosi House speaker when any North Alabamian knew her damaging ideology before his Election to the House
His Contribution of $ 1500.00 to elect Howard Dean for President
His Contribution of $ 1000.00 to re-elect Sen. Harry Reid
His Contribution of $ 1000.00 to unseat Sen. Jeff Sessions
His Contribution of $ 1800.00 to unseat Rep Robert Aderholt

Whereas, while in the Alabama Senate he voted to override Governor Riley’s veto so that the Legislature could get a 62% pay raise

Whereas, since the Federal and State Republican Party Leaders see fit to support Parker Griffith’s switch and to be placed on the Republican Primary Ballot, some never Having stepped foot in the 5th Congressional District

Whereas, the Local Republican Party leadership committee, with troops on the ground in the 5th Congressional District know the true value of Republicans in this district.

Therefore be it resolved that, Since the winter of 2008 &2009 we have been actively preparing for the 2010 election to defeat Parker Griffith. The 2 announced candidates that have had their feet on the ground in the 5th district for almost a year. We all knew the criticality of defeating congressional candidates like Parker Griffith and any other Democrat that supports the Democrat Platform, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Howard Dean, etc. Although It is the authority of the Alabama State Republican Party to seat Parker Griffith on our Madison County Ballot, we, the Madison County Republican Executive Committee did not initiate nor support this action and encourage all Republicans, Independents and conservative democrats to support the 2 republican candidates in this race.

R E S O L U T I O N - - Concerning Outside WASHINGTON Congressional Involvement In the Republican Primary

Whereas, there is a contested Republican primary for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of Alabama, and

Whereas, the six longtime Republican members of the Alabama Congressional delegation recently announced their support for Congressman Parker Griffith in individual statements welcoming him to the Republican Party, and

Whereas, there are other well qualified Republican candidates for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, and

Whereas, there are unconfirmed, but believable, reports that these six longtime Republican members of the Alabama Congressional delegation are involved in fund-raising and other campaign activities on behalf of former Democrat Congressman Parker Griffith, and

Whereas, there are also reports that the National Republican Congressional Committee also intends to contribute money to the Parker Griffith Campaign for the Republican nomination for Congress, and

Whereas, such involvement is very unfair to the other candidates for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 5th Congressional District, and

Whereas, the Republican voters in the 5th Congressional District are capable of deciding for themselves which Republican primary candidate for Congress will best represent them and their views in Congress, and

Whereas, we strongly believe the Republican voters in the 5th Congressional District should be allowed to determine the Republican nominee without being told by those in Washington how to vote, now therefore

Be It Resolved that the Madison County Republican Executive hereby requests the National Republican Congressional Committee and the six Republican members of the Alabama Congressional delegation to cease any fund-raising or other activities for one of the Republican candidates for Congress until a nominee is selected by the Republican voters in the district, and

Be It Further Resolved that the Madison County Republican Executive Committee requests the Committee secretary to send a copy of this resolution to the National Republican Congressional Committee and to all Republican members of the Alabama Congressional delegation.

Adopted by the Madison County Republican Executive Committee in a regular meeting on January 18, 2010.

Congressman Parker Grififith issued a press release reflecting that all of the Alabama Republican Delegation welcomes him to their ranks. Names included: Congressmen Robert Aderholt, Spencer Bachus, Joe Bonner and Mike Rogers, and Senators Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby.

" I can't help but regard this "Road to Damascus" conversion of Parker Griffith's as solely a ploy to cling to his seat in 2010. We're all well-aware of the increasingly negative poll results for Democrats in Alabama and around the nation.

Limestone County Republican Executive Committee Rebukes Parker Griffith
They passed a resolution criticizing Griffith for his previous support of Democratic principals and for changing his party affiliation as a "political tactic" to better insure his 2010 re-election.

The committee "welcomes Dr. Griffith into the Republican Party with reservations and admonishes his past official conduct against the best interest of the Republican Party," as stated in the resolution.

It was requested that the funds Parker Griffith raised as a Democrat not be used in the Republican Primary.< Executive Committee Chairman Jim Burden said Friday that the committee added the fund raising language to the resolution in an effort to give the other two GOP candidates "an equal playing field" in the June primary. The resolution came on the same day that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee distributed a release painting Griffith as a flip flopper when it comes to universal health care.

Citing a Huntsville Times story from 2006 titled "Griffith calls for universal health care" DCCC spokesman Jesse Ferguson said "four years ago, Parker Griffith was preaching the gospel of universal health care and now he's pledged to undo any progress we make on health insurance reform."

Parker Griffith had some strong actions in the Alabama Legislature to kill a strong anti-illegal immigration bill. Read about it at: Parker Griffith Congress

The McInnish Newsletter, Political Commentary from a Conservative Viewpoint

All is Forgiven? Who says so?
By
Hugh McInnish

I was out of town yesterday so I didn't know until I unwrapped my paper this morning: Parker Griffith has seen the light: he has decided that, despite his long record of support for liberal causes he is a conservative after all, and wishes to move to the Republican Party.

The Republican State Chairman quickly said, as quoted in The Huntsville Times, "All is forgiven." For whom, exactly, is Mike Hubbard speaking? He is not a resident of the 5th District and Griffith does not represent him. It would seem that it would be incumbent upon those of us whom Griffith would represent if reelected to decide to forgive-- or not to forgive.

Hubbard in the same newspaper article says "It's almost like coming to your church and asking forgiveness for past sins. You don't turn them away. We'll forgive him for his sins." But Mike is confused. His attempted analogy could hardly be more inept-- and I would add ridiculous. Politics and religion are as far apart as the stars are from the Earth. The Republican Party is not a religion, Parker Griffith is not an errant parishioner, and Mr. Hubbard is not the Pope. He has no authority to pronounce absolution on behalf of those of us who will be intimately affected by future political events.

Since the latter are just those who reside in the 5th Congressional District, I think it appropriate that the 5th District Committee convene to consider the matter. Accordingly I have just now petitioned Elbert Peters, our 5th District Chairman, to convene a meeting of the Committee to properly address this crucial issue. My communication to him is reproduced below.

I hope that recipients of this newsletter, whether on the Committee or not, will support this move. Thank you for your loyalty to all that is good in the Country!

Hon. James Elbert Peters, Chairman, 5th District Republican Committee Huntsville, Alabama

Dear Mr. Peters:

These are momentous times in the political life of America, and yesterday the raging intensity of the national political battle has been been brought to our very doorstep.

With our frightened longtime liberal Democrat congressman suddenly bailing out of his Marxist-oriented party, and declaring that, after all, despite his years-long liberal voting record, he is really a conservative, and that he wishes to run as a candidate under our Party's banner, I believe that discussion among the Members of the 5th District Republican Committee is urgently needed. Accordingly, I request that you convene, at the very first practicable moment, certainly some time before the first of the year, a special meeting of the Committee for such a discussion and appropriate action. Further, I believe that such discussions should not exclude the subject of asking the State Committee to bar this individual from qualifying to run as a Republican.
With great respect,
Hugh McInnish
Member
5th Congressional District Committee

Editorial Comment

The Republican 5th Congressional Executive Committee has considered calling a meeting on the above, but has declined to meet at this point. When the Alabama Republican State Committee meets on February 6, 2010, the subject is likely to come up for discussion.
